It's been a while since visiting Two Chefs and the thought of their addictive butter pork ribs made us decide to pop by for dinner spontaneously.
Service was extremely prompt and their staff were less grumpy compared to my last visit. It was still easy to get seats when we reached at 7.30pm, though a long queue formed later when we were leaving at about 8.15pm onwards.
Butter Pork Ribs ($8)
We were stunned for a while as they served this, with an appalling decrease in portioning. Unlike our previous visits with at least medium-sized slabs of pork chops filling the plate, this was sparsely filled with small cubes.
Taste-wise, the strong buttery aroma was gone, leaving only a light whiff of it with every spoonful of the powder. Pork chops were also over fried, hard and dry inside covered with much crust instead of the juicy pieces previously.
Golden Mushroom Beancurd ($8)
A pretty classic one that wasn't much to shout about, this was a simple combination that was decent with soft tofu well complemented with the savoury sauce. It would have been perfect if it were a hotplate version with a layer of omelette to add to its flavour. Still a decent one nonetheless.
Salted Egg Yolk Prawn ($15 for 6 pcs)
If I didn't remember that I'd ordered salted egg prawns, tasting it alone would have had me thinking that it was just plain fried prawn balls. Though the gritty texture was present, the flavours weren't strong enough for that salted egg shiok-ness. The chilli padi and curry leaves didn't do much to lift its flavour either, more work needs to be done in getting its taste right.
A pity that the taste of even their signature dish has changed so much. With the gross reduction in serving size and vast drop in taste, it's unlikely that we'll be returning.
