[Event] #GivingTuesday - A day of giving!
Tuesday, December 03, 2013
December marks a month of joyous festive celebrations for many with Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kickstart. Like how retail stores partake in Black Friday, #GivingTuesday works exactly the same way, except in a more meaningful manner, where it is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support non-profit organisations.
#GivingTuesday is a movement that originated from United States and they are not an organisation nor do they accept or distribute donations. All donations are to be made through partner websites, hence official partners are responsible for their respective fund-raising activities.
Everyone has their own reasons for giving back to the society. We believe that it helps to create a more fair and equitable place for everyone to live in. Most people nowadays are very fortunate and privileged to have a roof over their heads, especially if you grew up in developed cities such as Singapore or Hong Kong (where we come from).
Before you go out to make that luxurious purchase, has it ever occurred to you that this seemingly little sum of money could enrich the lives of some or even provide a chance to someone out there to live a healthy and productive life?
Food for thought, maybe? Help spread the initiative #GivingTuesday today and meanwhile reflect about how we can help to shape a better world for everyone to live in. No effort is too small, happy holiday season all!
For those in Singapore, you may wish to refer to http://www.givingtuesday.sg/ for more details on how to participate while for our readers worldwide, please refer to http://community.givingtuesday.org/News for more details.
